Brave new world
Read "Away From the Icebergs" and "Into a New World of Librarianship" (is that a ship for librarians?) and agree with most of what they say. Doubtless libraries must and are changing and this blogging exercise is a good example of our library's willingness to change. Thanks to the internet information is readily available on line almost instantly. It could be that libraries of the future should concentrate more on fiction and less on reference materials since reference questions can be so quickly googled, etc? Still there will always be a need for books and one should not overlook the social aspects of a library. While is the internet is efficient it is by it's very nature somewhat cold and certainly solitary. To me a library should also be a good place to hang out and I believe Linebaugh does a good job of making our library a good place for so doing. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Delicious doings
Went to this website and added the tool-bar stuff to my firefox toolbar. Interesting site altho' I can't really see that it adds much more functionality to my browser. My desktop is beginning to look like my mind - cluttered.

Failure to launch
As it turns out my good friends at microsoft internet explorer will not allow me to post the results of my brainscan in this blog which is probably a good idea since the world is probably not now and never will be ready for the massive output and sheer brilliance of the jerry bailey brain. p. s. I also cook and wash windows.
Image Generation
At my age I'm reluctant to try to generate anything but I did find an appealing image of my brain at the brainscanner website which I will attempt to post on this blog. Wish me luck.

Backing up to go forward
Being notified that I had skipped one of the steps I returned to the presentation on life-long learning and the 7 1/2 steps and discovered that I'm one heck of a life-long learner. I act (look for me in the January production of Inherit the Wind at Patterson Park), I do crossword puzzles, I do yoga twice a week at the St. Clair Street Senior Center, I cook, I dance, I play a musical instrument (poorly), I'm somewhat computer literate and I read bunches. Now if I can just learn to speak spanish while riding a bicycle and kicking a soccer ball I think I'll have it all.

Blogging away
Per instructions visited the TeVA and Nashville Public Library web sites. I was looking for old photographs relating to the Tennessee Valley Authority, Senator Norris, et al and was unable to find them. Did download a picture of some girl singers from the Grand Ole Opry performing in McMinnville and will try to add them to my blog. Wish me luck!

Way to go Al
Happy this morning at the news that Al Gore has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, making him the 4th US President/Vice President to win this prestigious honor. For those keeping score it's Democrats 3 (Gore, Carter, Wilson) Republicans 1 (Teddy Roosevelt). What are the odds that W would ever win the Peace Prize. More likely the War prize although in his case the prize would be dubious, thousands of lost lives, billions of wasted dollars and a ruined reputation for the United States as a bastion of freedom. So there.

Busy busy busy
Exploring the highways and byways of the web takes you in many different directions. In the past two days I have posted a picture on Flickr and perused the group called Nighthawk. Then I visited the Nashville Public Library site and learned about RSS and bloglines. I'm now a proud bloglines subscriber interested the sub group liberal politico....go Hillary!

A peek into the past
From the 21st Century turning back the clock to the 19th Century with a visit to the very excellent P4Antiques database via Linebaugh.org. Discovered to no great surprise that the two pieces of furniture handed down to me by my grandparents via my parents - a marble-top commode and a platform rocker - have some value - sentimental to me, perhaps monitarily to my daughter who shall one day inherit them. Her taste leans toward Ikea so they might struggle to find a place in her abode.

Voyage into cyberspace
10...9...8...7...6...5...4....3....2....1....whoosh. And thus begins this journey into cyberspace. Over the coming days, weeks, months and dare we say years I hope to add to this space by feelings and thoughts and certainly my opinions. Sublimity and ridiculousness, religion and politics, theater, movies and certainly books will be discussed. Outside opinions will be welcomed. Wit and tolerance will be applauded, narrow-mindedness and stupidity will be ignored. The author is a hard-core liberal and a fierce feminist. Certainly opinionated, easily amused.
